About Tekamah

Tekamah is the Burt County seat, founded in 1854 and incorporated the following year. The city still wears that county-seat role in its courthouse, but the local history has more texture: the Omaha and North Western Railroad arrived in 1876, the Tekamah Carnegie Library grew from a 1916 citizen effort, and the city bridge and several houses are on historic registers. The site first served as an Indigenous camping ground before the town took shape. Tekamah is northeast Nebraska in courthouse-and-railroad form.
