Temple Terrace started out in the 1920s as a Mediterranean-inspired citrus grove and golf retreat, and you can still feel that vintage character across town today. The community gets its name from the Temple orange and the gentle hills sloping down to the Hillsborough River. Classic 1920s Mediterranean Revival architecture blends naturally with mid-century ranches under towering live oaks draped in Spanish moss, while a historic golf course weaves right through the center of town. Having recently marked its centennial, the area holds on to its old-Florida charm while remaining one of the most distinctive pockets of the Tampa area.

Geographically, Temple Terrace feels like a quiet, green enclave tucked inside the larger metro. The Hillsborough River wraps around the southern and western borders, giving riverside neighborhoods along scenic Riverhills Drive a peaceful, secluded atmosphere. Just next door sits the University of South Florida, which brings steady academic energy, cultural events, and diverse restaurants to the area. While major corridors like 56th Street and Fowler Avenue make daily shopping, grocery runs, and I-75 commutes easy, the residential streets quickly quiet down into tree-lined blocks where people walk dogs and chat with neighbors.

What started in the 1950s in a tiny golf caddy house has expanded into a full-service library within the county system.
