Terlingua sits just outside the western entrance to Big Bend National Park, known for its historic ghost town ruins and easygoing desert charm. Together with neighboring Study Butte, it serves as the practical hub for the area, offering essentials like gas, groceries, a post office, local eateries, and outfitters. While many visitors pass through on their way to explore the park, Terlingua has a spirited community of its own. Locals and travelers gather for live music at the Starlight Theatre, hang out on the porch of the old trading post, and come together each fall for the legendary championship chili cook-off.
