Thaxton, MS

Thaxton is a Pontotoc County town in north Mississippi. The 2020 census counted 692 residents. Pontotoc County School District serves the town, and Mississippi 6/US 278 and nearby state routes connect it with Pontotoc and the rural communities to the north and east. Thaxton's municipal government is small, with its mayor, aldermen, and clerk handling the local business, but the town sits inside a larger county network for shopping, health care, and public services. The surrounding landscape is a mix of fields, woods, and scattered homes, with agriculture and forestry shaping the work map more than a concentrated downtown.
