Thonotosassa, FL

Thonotosassa is a Hillsborough County census-designated place northeast of Tampa, near the Hillsborough River and Lake Thonotosassa. Its name comes from Seminole-Creek words associated with flint, pointing to a much older landscape story than modern suburban maps suggest. The community borders East Lake-Orient Park to the southwest and includes everyday local institutions such as Folsom Elementary School. Thonotosassa feels like a semi-rural Tampa-edge community, with water, trees, older roads, and development pressure all present at once.
