Tildenville, FL

Tildenville is a narrow Orange County census-designated place along County Road 545, south of State Road 50 and north of the Stoneybrook West development. The 2020 census counted 475 residents. Orange County describes it as one of the county’s oldest and smallest communities. Its modern map sits between Winter Garden and Oakland, with conservation land to the west and newer urban development to the east.

Luther Fuller Tilden bought land here in 1876 and built a citrus operation with packinghouses for shipping fruit and vegetables. His family also helped establish schools and donated land for Beulah Church, the Presbyterian Church in Oakland, and Lakeview High School, now Lakeview Middle School. Tildenville’s African American history is still visible at the Oakland-Tildenville Colored Cemetery and Tildenville Missionary Baptist Church, established in 1939. Brick Road, a 0.6-mile remnant of an older highway, adds a physical link to the earlier agricultural corridor. Tildenville remains a small named place with a citrus past, Black community institutions, and an urban edge around it.
