Tohatchi, NM

Tohatchi is a small, close-knit community on the Navajo Nation, nestled near the base of the Chuska Mountains along U.S. Route 491. Located about twenty-five miles north of Gallup on the way to Shiprock, it offers a peaceful, rural setting with deep roots in Diné culture. Its Navajo name translates loosely to "water dug out" or "water from a spring," a nod to the natural water sources that first drew people to the area. Today, with fewer than a thousand residents, it remains a quiet high-desert home surrounded by open skies and striking red rock landscapes.
