About Toledo

Toledo is Tama County's seat, founded in 1853 and named for Toledo, Ohio. The courthouse square still gives the city its civic center, while the Wieting Theatre—built in 1912 as a 650-seat opera house—keeps an old performance space in regular use. Each summer, the Stoplight Festival gathers around the historic signal at High Street and Broadway. Toledo is central Iowa with a county courthouse, a century-old theater, and a festival named for the light at the middle of town.
