Tower City, PA

Tower City is a Schuylkill County borough in the Williams Valley, named for Charlemagne Tower, the lawyer who came to the county over legal claims tied to coal and mineral lands. The borough grew as collieries opened around the valley and incorporated on December 19, 1892. Wiconisco Creek and the surrounding ridges give the town its shape: a narrow coal-country settlement with the main streets and old mining places gathered along the valley floor rather than spread across a broad plain.
