Tracy, MO

Tracy was laid out in 1872 along the Platte River and named for J. W. Tracey, superintendent of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. A post office has operated there since 1882, giving the city a long continuity of name and place. Tracy sits directly across the river from Platte City, so the two communities share a geography that is easy to understand: one on each side of the water, with the Platte shaping the view between them. The river remains its defining line.

Missouri Route 92 serves Tracy, while Interstate 29 passes to the northeast and Kansas City sits within the wider regional orbit. The Platte County R-III School District connects local children to schools in the surrounding county, including Compass Elementary and Platte City Middle School. Tracy’s character is in that combination of river and access—an old railroad city on the northwest bank, close to the county seat, with a small-town address that still looks across the water.
