Trapper Creek, AK

Trapper Creek is a Matanuska-Susitna Borough census-designated place where the 2020 census counted 499 residents. The community sits at the intersection of the George Parks Highway and Petersville Road, about 115 miles north of Alaska's largest city and just south of Denali State Park. The Parks Highway brought easier access to a place shaped earlier by homesteaders, miners, and trappers, and it now carries both year-round local trips and travelers heading toward the Alaska Range.

The name comes from brothers Oliver and Noah Rabidoux, early trappers who were among the first permanent inhabitants. Petersville Road heads west into mining, prospecting, camping, and hunting country, while the highway corridor gathers the post office, fuel, food, and other services around the junction. The borough's scattered settlement pattern leaves plenty of room between neighbors, cabins, and working land. Trapper Creek's local feel comes from that mix: a spread-out Susitna Valley community, a gateway to Denali State Park, and a working roadside stop with recreation country branching off to the west.
