Trego-Rohrersville Station, MD

Trego-Rohrersville Station is a small Washington County CDP in Pleasant Valley, a name that sounds like a rail timetable because it is one. The locality joins Trego, Rohrersville, and the station-era landscape west of Rohrersville. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad reached the area in 1867, with a station known as Rohrersville Station in Trego. That line connected a farming valley to larger markets and gave the settlement its long, unusually specific name.

Rohrersville grew around the railroad, churches, stores, farms, and schools. A village school first operated in an earlier log-and-brick building, a larger four-room school went up in 1880, and the last school building served the area until 1978. After the school closed, the building came under the Rohrersville Ruritan Club, keeping one of the village's old gathering places in local hands. The old school and station history make this one of those Maryland places where the surrounding road map matters more than a compact downtown.
