Trezevant, TN

Trezevant is a Carroll County town in western Tennessee, where the 2020 census counted 799 residents. The settlement was established in 1859 on land owned by L. B. White and W. A. Marshall. The Memphis and Louisville Railroad reached town in 1860, built a depot, and gave Trezevant the name of engineer Jim Trezevant.

Railroad traffic set the town's early rhythm. A post office and first merchants arrived alongside the depot, and the first merchants were A. White and R. H. Algee, with Algee also serving as the first postmaster in town. Trezevant grew within a county whose long economic base was agriculture. The town incorporated in 1911, and a 1929 Trezevant High School building marks the town's school history. The railroad no longer defines daily travel as it once did, yet the original pattern is easy to see: a Carroll County town placed on a rail line, surrounded by farm country, with a school and main streets gathered around that beginning.
