About Trinidad

Trinidad sits above a harbor on Humboldt County's Pacific coast, a small incorporated city whose shoreline carries several layers. The Yurok village of Tsurai occupied the bluffs below present-day streets until 1916; California recognizes the site as a state historical landmark. Trinidad Head shelters the harbor, while the city holds tide and submerged lands in trust for commerce, navigation, fisheries, and other public purposes. Fishing boats, the boat launch, pier, and coastal roads keep the harbor in the center of town. Nearby state lands fill out the map: Trinidad State Beach, Sue-meg State Park, the California Coastal National Monument, and a marine laboratory. City planning around the harbor covers water quality, fisheries, parks, and boardwalk access down toward the water. Trinidad's local story is carried by the meeting of Yurok history, a working fishing harbor, and a North Coast shoreline shaped by headlands and sea stacks.
