About Trion
Trion is a Chattooga County town whose local story starts with a cotton mill. Trion Mills began in the 1840s, a post office called Trion Factory opened in 1847, and the name shortened to Trion in 1904. The mill was rebuilt after an 1875 fire and became part of the long-running Mount Vernon textile operation, which is why the town is known for denim. The Chattooga River runs through town, and U.S. 27 connects Trion with Summerville and LaFayette. The local shorthand is river, route, and mill: a north Georgia town that grew up around cloth-making.
