About Troy

Troy is a Lincoln County city in a narrow Kootenai River valley, where the Cabinet and Purcell mountains squeeze the town into a western Montana corridor. It sits at Montana's lowest incorporated elevation, and the river, Kootenai Falls, and nearby red-cedar forests set the scene. Gold prospectors arrived in the 1880s, then the Great Northern Railway turned the camp into a working town with a freight station. Today Troy is a river-and-rail town near the Idaho line, with the mountains never far from the main street.
