About Trussville

Trussville's Cahaba Project is not only a historic district; it remains a working civic landscape. Developed with federal labor during the 1930s, the planned settlement contains 287 original residential units in single-family, duplex, and triplex forms, with a mall-like green at its center. Today the Trussville Public Library sits within the district and participates in the countywide Public Libraries in Jefferson County cooperative. It opens seven days a week and lends Rokus and a Library of Things in addition to books and audiovisual materials, while offering meeting rooms, study rooms, computers, and Libby, Hoopla, and Kanopy. The city pool and splash pad are also on Parkway Drive in the Cahaba Project area. Outdoor and indoor recreation extend well beyond that historic core. Trussville reports more than 700 acres of parkland, including sports fields and routes for walking, hiking, and biking; the Cahaba River Greenway is used year-round.

The Parks and Recreation system also operates a Civic Center, Senior Center, racquet club, athletic center, fitness center, and organized youth and adult sports. From the 2020 census to the 2025 estimate, Trussville moved from 26,123 to 27,273 residents. For 2020-2024, homeowners occupied about 92 percent of homes, and nearly 90 percent of people age one or older had stayed in the same home from the previous year. The median owner-occupied value was $370,300, median monthly owner costs with a mortgage were $2,077, and median gross rent was $1,711. Median household income was $123,275, 46 percent of adults held at least a bachelor's degree, and workers' mean travel time was about 27 minutes. Nearly a century after it was laid out, the Cahaba Project still contains both homes and daily-use public services.
