Tuba City, AZ

Set high on the Painted Desert plateau, Tuba City serves as the main regional hub for the western Navajo Nation. With around 8,000 residents, it is the largest community in the area, situated right at the junction of U.S. Route 160 and State Route 264. Known in Navajo as To'Nanees'Dizi, the town provides essential healthcare, schooling, and administrative services to surrounding Navajo, Hopi, and San Juan Southern Paiute communities. Living here puts you at a quiet high-desert crossroads, with straight highway routes west toward Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon or east toward the Hopi mesas.

Day-to-day life revolves around local schools, regional services, and longstanding traditions. In town, you will find the historic Tuba City Trading Post, the Explore Navajo Museum, and a major regional hospital that anchors local employment. Just a few miles down the road, preserved dinosaur tracks make for a fun weekend stop in the open desert. The community really gathers each October for the Western Navajo Fair, bringing a lively parade, carnival, rodeo, and traditional ceremonies to the fairgrounds.
