Tullahassee, OK

Located about five miles northwest of Muskogee in Wagoner County, Tullahassee holds a unique spot as Oklahoma's oldest surviving historically all-Black town. The community started around a Creek Nation school in the 1850s before growing into a bustling settlement founded by Creek Freedmen along the railroad. Today, it offers a peaceful rural setting with plenty of open space, just a quick drive from Muskogee's shops and everyday conveniences.

Heritage is everywhere you look here. Historic sites like the 1912 brick A.J. Mason Building and the Carter G. Woodson School keep the town's deep roots visible, recalling the era when Tullahassee was home to Flipper Davis College. It remains a small, tight-knit community where neighbors value their quiet surroundings and one of the most storied pasts in eastern Oklahoma.
