Turin, GA

Turin is a Coweta County town on the southern side of metro Atlanta, with 347 residents in the 2020 census. The name was carried over from Turin, Italy, when the Georgia General Assembly chartered the town in 1890. Cotton and farming shaped the early economy, while a railroad line reached the area in 1870 and State Route 16 became the main road through town. Hill Industrial School is Turin's most unusual civic landmark. Opened in 1927, it served as the only vocational school for African Americans in Coweta County until 1953; after refurbishment, it became Turin Town Hall in 2009. The town's water system also serves nearby Sharpsburg, and an annual tractor pull keeps farm machinery in the local calendar.
