Tuscarawas, OH

Tuscarawas, originally Trenton, is a village in southern Tuscarawas County along the Tuscarawas River, about eight miles south of New Philadelphia on State Route 416. The river is not background here: Snyder’s Landing provides boat access, and Ohio & Erie Canal Lock 15 sits at the south end of the village. Old transportation layers—river and canal—sit right beside present-day streets, park fields, and the village’s Main Avenue businesses.

The local map stays usefully compact. A branch of the Tuscarawas County Public Library, Indian Valley Middle School, two churches, village offices, and a park with ball fields and playgrounds all sit within the same small orbit. Tusky Days gives the calendar a yearly marker, while the river keeps the place tied to the older Tuscarawas settlement story. The village also keeps its own police department and volunteer fire connection, which matters when the river and canal are more than scenery.
