The community is in western McKinley County along U.S. Route 491, which leads south 14 miles to Gallup, the county seat, and north 10 miles to Tohatchi. The area drains northeast toward Coyote Wash, a tributary of the Chaco River and part of the San Juan River watershed. Twin Lakes is in Gallup-McKinley County Public Schools.
