Tyler, MN

Tyler is a Lincoln County city on U.S. 14 in southwestern Minnesota. The 2020 census counted 1,138 residents. The Lincoln County Fairgrounds bring farm families into town each summer, while Danebod, the Danish historic district at Tyler's south edge, keeps a different part of the settlement story visible. Main Street, the highway, and the fairgrounds tie Tyler to the surrounding prairie and the county's agricultural calendar. The fairgrounds and Danebod sit at opposite ends of a city still organized around U.S. 14.

Tyler was platted in 1879 and named for C. B. Tyler, a Minnesota land agent and newspaper editor. Danish settlers built up Danebod, whose folk school, Stone Hall, Cross Church, and Gym Hall are listed together on the National Register. The 1918 tornado tore through Lincoln County and destroyed much of Tyler, including fair buildings; the fair returned and has continued. Tyler's local rhythm still runs through the same mix of farm events, highway traffic, historic buildings, and community organizations.
