Tyonek, AK

Tyonek is a small Dena'ina Athabascan village on the northwest shore of Cook Inlet, home to around 150 people. The area has thousands of years of Indigenous history, set against a backdrop of quiet coastline and the nearby Chuitna River. Like many remote Alaska communities, Tyonek is completely off the road system. Daily travel relies on small planes, and heavier freight comes in by barge during the warmer months. Everyday life revolves around close community ties, tribal leadership, and long-standing subsistence traditions like salmon fishing and hunting.
