Tyrone, NM

Tyrone is a Grant County census-designated place in southwestern New Mexico, near the copper country west of Silver City. The present community sits northeast of the original Tyrone townsite, which was reshaped by mining operations. Dry hills, desert grasses, pinon-juniper, open mine country, and long views toward the Gila region set the landscape apart from the denser streets of nearby Silver City.

Mining remains the central fact of Tyrone's present economy and local geography. Grant County describes an active mine in the community, while the surrounding county also ties its identity to ranching, agriculture, and outdoor destinations such as the Gila Cliff Dwellings.
