Underhill Flats, VT

Underhill Flats is a village and census-designated place straddling the Underhill-Jericho line in Chittenden County. It sits where The Creek meets the Browns River, with Vermont Route 15 running through the valley and linking the two towns toward Burlington and northern Vermont. The area grew around water, roads, and small industries: sawmills, a creamery, stores, churches, a hotel, and a stagecoach route once filled the Riverside/Underhill Flats corridor. Much of that commercial layer has changed, but the two-town location still gives the village a shared identity.

Today the corridor holds the Underhill Post Office, Deborah Rawson Memorial Library, Underhill ID Elementary School, Browns River Middle School, churches, Jacobs Family Market, and other small businesses. Route 15 carries a heavy commuter stream, while the Browns River and nearby Mount Mansfield keep the landscape tied to farms, woods, and mountain recreation. Underhill State Park and the Long Trail draw people toward the slopes, but daily life stays close to the village center. Underhill Flats is a Vermont crossroads with a river at its feet, a mountain behind it, and two towns sharing the same main street.
