About Union City
Union City is an Erie County borough built along the South Branch of French Creek, where U.S. 6 and Pennsylvania 8 meet as Main Street. The settlement began as Miles Mills, when William Miles put a gristmill and sawmill on the creek around 1801; it became Union Mills in 1863 and Union City in 1871. The Union City Historic District, added to the National Register in 1990, holds commercial, residential, and industrial buildings from 1865 to 1925. The three-story historical museum on Main Street fills in the rest with tools, mill equipment, schoolroom pieces, household goods, and products made by local tradespeople.
