Upper Fruitland, NM

Upper Fruitland lies in San Juan County on the south side of the San Juan River, within the Navajo Nation and southwest of Farmington. The river supports a narrow farming valley through northern New Mexico, and the Upper Fruitland Irrigation Project has carried water to tribal land since the 1930s. The community is separate from Fruitland across the river, a distinction that matters on the map as well as in local government. Roads lead toward Farmington, Shiprock, and the neighboring Navajo chapters along the river.

Upper Fruitland Chapter handles local meetings, assistance, planning, and services through its chapter house, while the chapter’s facilities include a community center, senior center, fairgrounds, and recreation spaces. Central Consolidated Schools serves students from Upper Fruitland and nearby communities, tying the chapter to a larger school network. Farming, grazing, family events, and river management give the community its daily shape.
