Vado, NM

Set in southern New Mexico's sunny Mesilla Valley, Vado is a small rural community right off Interstate 10, sitting roughly halfway between Las Cruces and El Paso. Home to around 3,000 people, the area offers peaceful desert living surrounded by green pecan orchards and open farmland. Vado also holds a unique place in state history. In the 1920s, Francis and Ella Boyer relocated here after founding Blackdom, New Mexico's historic all-Black homesteading colony, bringing families to build a new agricultural community along the Rio Grande.

The early settlers planted crops, ran local shops, and founded churches that helped shape the town. Modern Vado offers plenty of appeal for people looking for affordable, quiet living with quick highway access. Families are served by the Gadsden Independent School District, which includes Vado Elementary and Alta Vista Early College. It is an easygoing valley neighborhood where you can enjoy wide desert skies and a friendly, unhurried pace, with the larger city perks of Las Cruces and El Paso just a short drive down the road.
