Vallecito, CA

Vallecito is a small, quiet community in the Calaveras County foothills right off Highway 4. Home to fewer than 500 people, it started as a busy mining camp during the 1849 Gold Rush. You can still see plenty of that nineteenth-century heritage today. Historic buildings like the old Dinkelspiel Store, a church dating back to the 1850s, and vintage foothill homes give the center of town a classic Gold Country charm.

Living here means plenty of open space, scenic views, and easy access to outdoor recreation. The area is home to Moaning Caverns, which features the largest single cave chamber in California. Vallecito is also surrounded by foothill ranches and local vineyards, giving it a peaceful country feel. When you need groceries, dining, or weekend activities, the popular neighboring towns of Murphys and Angels Camp are only a five-minute drive down the road.
