Valley Falls, NY

Valley Falls is a quiet, tight-knit village in Rensselaer County, set along the scenic curves of the Hoosic River. The water runs straight through the middle of town, dividing the main village in Pittstown from the northern side in Schaghticoke. While it began in the 1800s as a bustling stop along the rail lines with local shops, vineyards, and small foundries, today's Valley Falls offers a relaxed, rural atmosphere surrounded by open countryside.

Much of the village's heritage stems from the old James Thompson textile mill, which operated along the river for generations and set the daily schedule for local families. Following the mill's closure in the 1990s, the community transitioned into a peaceful residential haven of around 500 residents. Today, people move here for the historic homes, scenic river views, and quiet neighborhood streets, while still having an easy commute to larger Capital Region hubs like Troy and Albany.
