About Valley Home
Valley Home is a small Stanislaus County community north of Oakdale, built around farms and an old shipping point for the northeastern part of the county. The place began as Clyde, became Thalheim after German settlement around 1900, and took the English name Valley Home during World War II. A post office opened in 1903. Before the town was divided into small ranches, the land was a large wheat operation; irrigation from the Tulloch Ditch helped make the later farm settlement possible. Those German beginnings, the ditch-fed fields, and the road connection to Oakdale still place Valley Home on the county map.
