Vergennes, IL

Vergennes is a village in Jackson County, Illinois, United States. The 2020 census counted 235 residents. On February 28, 2017, a deadly tornado which impacted the outskirts of Perryville, Missouri, also struck the southern side of Vergennes. No fatalities occurred occurred within the village, or in other parts of Illinois. The short version is that Vergennes carries an earlier story into the places people know and use now. Illinois Route 13 runs through the east side of the village, leading north 13 miles to Pinckneyville and south 10 miles to Murphysboro, the Jackson county seat.
