Tucked into the forested hills of the upper Nehalem Valley, Vernonia offers a quiet, small-town retreat about an hour northwest of Portland. Home to around 2,400 residents, the community has deep roots in the timber industry, which locals still celebrate every August during the annual Friendship Jamboree.
