About Versailles

Versailles is the Morgan County seat in central Missouri, with 2,539 residents at the 2020 census. The post office has carried the French royal name since 1835, while the town itself was platted in 1854. Missouri Route 5 skirts the western and northern sides, and the Moreau River runs through the county's wider story. County government gives Versailles its weekday purpose, but the city has a surprisingly full calendar when autumn arrives.

The Old Tyme Apple Festival takes over the first Saturday in October with a parade, fiddlers, pie contests, a car cruise, and a play at the Royal Theatre. The Morgan County Historical Society Museum occupies the old Martin Hotel downtown, giving the courthouse town a place to keep its memory indoors. The public schools are part of Morgan County R-II, and the Morgan County Library adds another downtown stop. Versailles is a county-seat town with a French name, a Missouri Route 5 map, and an apple festival that makes the first Saturday of October feel like a local holiday.
