About Vicksburg

Vicksburg is a village in Kalamazoo County on the shore of Sunset Lake. The 2020 census counted 3,706 residents. Its western section lies in Schoolcraft Township and its eastern section in Brady Township. John Vickers settled in the area in 1831 and became the village's namesake; Vicksburg incorporated in 1871. An early dam formed a pond that supplied water power to a mill. Public schools in the village include Vicksburg High School, Vicksburg Middle School, and Sunset Lake Elementary School.
