About Victor
Victor lies between the Bitterroot Range and Sapphire Mountains along the Bitterroot River, and the name belongs to Salish Chief Victor, who argued for his people's place in the valley. The townsite was platted in 1881; mining, railroads, timber, and agriculture all left marks that the Victor Heritage Museum now keeps in the old depot. The present community still has a K-12 public school, working ranches, and Highway 93 running up and down the valley. Victor is the kind of Ravalli County place where a museum, a school, and a river tell the story without much fuss: Native history first, then rail and farm country layered over it.
