Vienna Center, OH

Vienna Center is an unincorporated Trumbull County community and census-designated place in central Vienna Township, where the 2020 census counted 622 residents. The township began as Township 4, Range 2 in the Connecticut Western Reserve and was surveyed in 1798 by a group led by Uriel Holmes. Vienna Center later became known for several clock-making factories established between 1812 and the 1830s. Coal added another working layer after a mine opened in 1866; roughly twenty mines followed in the next two decades.

The township's present map still carries those older industries. A building raised in 1825 was moved to Youngstown-Kingsville Road and now serves as Vienna Township Hall. Vienna and Fowler townships joined their schools in 1961, creating the Mathews Local School District, with Baker Elementary, Currie Elementary, and Mathews Junior-Senior High School. Farms and township roads surround the center, while the 44473 post office uses the name Vienna. Vienna Center sits within the Youngstown-Warren metropolitan area, though its local landmarks point to a much older sequence of survey lines, clock shops, coal workings, and shared schools.
