Vinton, TX

Vinton is an El Paso County village on the east bank of the Rio Grande, where the old Camino Real once carried travelers between El Paso and Santa Fe. In Spanish and Mexican times the stop was known as La Salinera, after the salt cedars along the river, and later as Cottonwood; the Southern Pacific Railroad brought the name Vinton in the early 1880s, honoring surveyor J. C. Vinton. Childress Elementary and the Canutillo school district are part of the present local map. Vinton is a West Texas river village with a layered travel history running from the Camino Real to the railroad.
