About Virgil

Virgil is a Greenwood County city about eight miles east of Hamilton. Its post office was established in 1863, placing the community among the county’s early organized settlements; the town may have taken its name from Virgil, New York. The Greenwood County Historical Society and Museum has a Virgil exhibit focused on the settlement and local families. Madison-Virgil USD 386 provides the present school connection.
