Waite Hill, OH

Waite Hill is a small village in Lake County, east of Cleveland, with 543 residents in the 2020 census. William Waite purchased the first large tract here in the early 1800s, and the village grew on a wooded plateau between branches of the Chagrin River. Today Waite Hill is split between the Willoughby-Eastlake and Kirtland school districts, with the village boundary sitting inside a wider Cleveland suburban map. The place still has a country-road feel, even though the Cleveland area is close. The village's old stories run through farms, family names, police radios, and the long effort to keep the community's open landscape from turning into a standard subdivision.
