Wall Lake, IA

Wall Lake had 755 residents in 2020, with its name pointing straight to the lake beside the town. The community was platted in 1877 in Sac County, where the water, farm fields, and small-town street grid meet. East Sac County Community School District now serves the area; the district formed on July 1, 2011, with elementary school in Sac City and junior-senior high school in Lake View. That arrangement links Wall Lake’s daily school life with neighboring communities.

Wall Lake’s civic life is spread through a handful of well-used local places. The public library maintains digital archives as well as its regular collection, and the city pool gives summers a familiar destination. The recreation center occupies the former East Sac County elementary school, while Spring Lake Country Club adds a long-running gathering place outside the central blocks. Wall Lake is also remembered as the birthplace of singer Andy Williams, who was born here in 1927, and the Williams family’s musical history gives the town a connection far beyond Sac County.
