The site was originally a village of the Stillaguamish and Snohomish peoples known in the Lushootseed language as dxʷtux̌ʷub, and later became a residential community of approximately 3,442 that features a large Christian summer camp and conference center. Public education is served by the Stanwood-Camano School District.
