Warrenton, GA

Warrenton is the Warren County seat in east-central Georgia, founded in 1797 and incorporated as a town in 1810 before becoming a city in 1908. The courthouse square has been the town's civic center for generations; a courthouse stood there by 1809, and the present Warren County Courthouse was completed after a 1909 fire. Main Street, county offices, and local businesses still gather around that square.

County government gives Warrenton a wider role than its city limits suggest. The courthouse, library, senior center, extension services, transit, and school system all serve residents from the surrounding rural county. Warren County's landscape includes streams, fields, forests, and the Ogeechee River along the western edge, so the city functions as a service and meeting point within a broad Piedmont landscape. The square also keeps county history visible during ordinary county errands.
