About Waterford
Waterford is a Marshall County CDP whose present site emerged when the Mississippi Central Railroad moved through in the 1850s. The earlier village stood west of the railroad and was relocated with its businesses, churches, and post office; the name likely referred to a ford on Little Spring Creek. The 2,518,080-square-meter Census footprint remains south of Holly Springs, along a corridor shaped first by wagon roads and later by rail.
