About Watonga

Watonga is the Blaine County seat, on land opened after the 1892 Land Run from the former Cheyenne and Arapaho reservation. Its name honors Arapaho Chief Wo'teenko'oh, translated as Black Coyote. October brings the Watonga Cheese Festival, a tradition that grew out of the town's cheese-factory years, while Roman Nose State Park lies seven miles north with two lakes in a canyon setting. Watonga is an Oklahoma place where tribal history, a cheese festival, and a nearby state park all sit on the same road map.
