About Wauregan

Wauregan is a Plainfield village built around the Quinebaug River and the cotton mill that rose there in the 1850s. The Wauregan Mills made woven cotton goods, including flannel, and the company built worker houses, boarding houses, a store, and an H-shaped fieldstone mill around the plant. The mill closed in 1957, but much of the village remains inside the Wauregan Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1979. Wauregan is a Connecticut mill village where the old factory still sets the street plan.
