About Waverly

Waverly is a Wood County census-designated place of 369 residents in the 2020 census, on the Ohio River along West Virginia Route 2 northeast of Parkersburg. The ZIP 26184 post office gives the community a formal address, while the river and highway set its larger regional orientation. Waverly is also known as Bull Creek and Union School District, names that preserve earlier layers of the settlement's local map. The Ohio River remains the defining physical feature.

School history gives the place a few recognizable landmarks. Union School supplied the older name, Pumpkin Knob School later became a community building used for 4-H meetings, and Pine Grove School is now used as Pine Grove Baptist Church. These buildings trace how education shifted within the community while the post office and Route 2 continue to locate Waverly along the Ohio River. The CDP's geography is therefore a mix of river road, former school sites, and ties to Parkersburg, the Wood County seat.
