Wayland, NY

Wayland is the village at the center of the larger Town of Wayland in northern Steuben County, near Livingston County and the junction of NY 15, 21, and 63. The area was first settled around 1806, and the village grew after the Erie Railroad chose it as a station; incorporation followed in 1877. Today Wayland-Cohocton Central School District ties the village to the wider rural town, while the B&H Rail Corporation still reaches Wayland on the surviving Painted Post-to-Wayland line. Wayland is a crossroads community where three state routes, an old railroad terminal, and a town boundary all meet in one compact place.
