About Weirton

Weirton is a city in Hancock and Brooke counties, West Virginia, situated along the Ohio River in the state's northern panhandle bordering both Ohio and Pennsylvania. Founded around the Weirton Steel Corporation, established by Ernest T. Weir in 1909 and once one of the largest independent steel producers in the nation, the city of approximately 18,600 was formally incorporated in 1947. Public education is administered by the Brooke and Hancock county school districts.
